Built in 1901, the “Second Ward School” has survived several iterations. It served as a four-room elementary school until the mid-1960s. it was then a kindergarten and housed the school district’s administrative offices, and in the 1980s became an apartment building until the early 2000s.

After a decade of renovations, the building is now The Walnut Street Art House, serving as a private residence, studio, and cultural center.
